Contact: Cory Weigel

LAFAYETTE, La. — After leading No. 10 Louisiana to a program-best 26-0 start to the season, including a 9-2 defeat over the defending World Series champion No. 5 Arizona State, Nerissa Myers and Jordan Wallace were named the Sun Belt Conference Softball Players of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Myers earned her second player of the week honor of the season, while Wallace earned her first pitcher of the week accolade on the year. Four different Cajuns have earned SBC player of the week accolades this season.

Myers finished the week with a .500 batting average after going 5-for-10 in the four games. The junior lead the team with six runs, 10 RBI, two homeruns, 14 total bases and a slugging percentage of 1.400. Myers posted an on base percentage of .615 and knocked her second triple of the year. She came up big with a two-run blast against No. 5 Arizona State in the third inning, giving Louisiana an early 2-0 lead as the Cajuns defeated the defending national champions. The shortstop blasted her second grand slam of the year against Fresno State, totaling seven for UL this season.

Wallace improved her record to 13-0 on the year after winning all three of her starts last week, tossing 19 innings, with an ERA of 1.11 and struck out 14. The freshman threw a complete game in each of the contests, including No. 5 Arizona State, in which she allowed five hits, two runs and struck out three, handing the Sun Devils just their third loss of the year. Wallace hurled all five innings in the victory over Fresno State, surrendering two hits and one run on Friday. She threw a three-hit shutout on Tuesday versus McNeese State and punched out a career-high eight batters.

Louisiana will return to the field on Thursday where they play host to Georgia Tech in a doubleheader beginning at 5:00 p.m. at Lamson Park. The opening game will be broadcasted by local television KLAF.
