Soccer: Ragin’ Cajuns Soccer Welcomes Assistant Coach Scott Ginn to StaffLAFAYETTE, La. – The Ragin’ Cajuns soccer program added to its staff the hiring of assistant coach Scott Ginn on Thursday, announced head coach Scot Wieland.
“Scott will bring a lot of college coaching experience to our staff,” Wieland said. “He is a proven winner and recruiter. Scott has been coaching soccer for some time not only as a college coach but as a coach within state club systems and Olympic Development Programs in North Carolina. As long as I have known Scott, he has put his heart into his programs and the game. He will be a great addition to our staff!” Ginn joins the UL soccer program after a three-year stint at Belmont Abbey College, where he served as the assistant women’s soccer coach and recruiting coordinator. During his time at Belmont Abbey, Ginn produced two player of the year honorees, 15 all-conference and four all-region selections, and earned bids in the Division II NCAA Tournament in 2009 and 2010. “I am very excited about the opportunity to be a part of the soccer and athletic family at the University of Louisiana,” Ginn mentioned. “I have heard many great things from Scot Wieland about the university. I am excited to work with my longtime friend, and help the soccer program become a top team in the Sun Belt, southeast, and nationally. There is so much potential here at the University of Louisiana, and I am looking forward to this great opportunity.”
From 2003-2009, Ginn held the position of head women’s soccer coach at Mars Hill College. While juggling recruiting, scheduling, budget and fundraising, Ginn guided Mars Hill to three freshman of the year, seven all-conference and four all-region selections. Ginn graduated in May of 1990 from Barton, where he played collegiate soccer and was named the team captain his senior year. He was also a member of the Atlanta Amateur Soccer Division from 1992-96 before completing his master’s degree in sports administration from East Carolina in July of 2000.
Prior to his college days, Ginn completed a four-year stint in the US Army. Ginn was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division from 1981-1985.
