LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns women’s tennis team garnered some national attention on Friday as the Cajuns were ranked 19th in the Tennisrecruitng.net 2012 Top Mid-Major Women’s Recruiting Poll.
“It is nice to be recognized along with the other top mid-majors in the country and it’s a step in the right direction for our program,” head coach Greg Harkins said. “At the moment we are one of the best kept secrets in the nation, but the word is getting out. We’ve got tremendous facilities, strong academics and a wonderful social environment for a collegiate experience.”
Sophie van den Aarssen (Aarle Rixtel, The Netherlands), Melissa Burckhartt (Houston, Texas) and Bailey VanDyke (Montgomery, Texas) make up the early signees in the 2012-13 season.
“This recruiting class is the beginning of a strong group of student-athlete’s that are committed to being the best they can be on and off court,” Harkins added. “We are building for the future and are honored that these ladies choose to be part of the Ragin’ Cajun’s family. Our goal is to be competing at the highest levels within the Sun Belt Conference and be in the national spot light.
“We have had tremendous support from our administration and community but the hard work is just beginning and the true test will be on the courts and in the class room. One thing is for sure it will be a fun and exciting 2012-13 campaign!”
Check RaginCajuns.com next week for the release of the spring signees for the women’s tennis 2012-13 signing class.
