Softball: Orgeron Claims World Cup Gold Medal

LAFAYETTE, La. – Christi Orgeron and Team USA defeated Australia 3-0 to claim the 2012 World Cup of Softball Championship on Monday evening.
With the win, Orgeron grabs her second consecutive World Cup title and is the sixth overall for the USA in the seven-year history of the tournament.
Orgeron finished the tournament, appearing in four games and going 2-for-8 from the dish. The former Ragin’ Cajuns outfielder ripped two doubles and drove in three runs in the opening game against Puerto Rico on June 28.
Fans will have more opportunities to watch Orgeron in the red, white and blue uniform as The USA Women’s National Team is slated to compete July 4-9 at the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International Championship in Surrey, B.C., Canada.  After that, the women head to Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada July 13-22 for the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women’s World Championship.
Looking to capture an eighth-consecutive Gold Medal, Team USA comes in as the defending World Champions, having defeated Japan in the Gold Medal game of the last edition of the event, which took place two years ago in Caracas, Venezuela.
