Men’s Tennis: Jeffrey Participates in USTA High Performance Coaching Program

LAFAYETTE, La. – Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis coach Mark Jeffrey was one of 15 coaches nationwide to participate in the USTA High Performance Coaching Program last week.

“It is an honor and privilege to be not only be recognized by my peers, but to gain valuable knowledge in helping our athletes improve and proceed to the professional tours after graduation,” Jeffrey said. “Getting the chance to learn from José Higueras was great. Jose has coached some of the best players in the world including Pete Sampras and Roger Federer. I think the things I learned during the week will only make our program stronger.” 

The USTA High Performance Coaching Program offers coaches one of the highest-quality coaching education experiences in the world. Training took place from Aug. 8-11 in Carson, Calif.

The selection process to attend the USTA High Performance Coaching Program is very detailed and only the most qualified coaches are invited to take part in the training.

 “This validates the strides our program has made in the last couple years,” Jeffrey added. “This selection wouldn’t be possible without the guys on the team stepping up and playing on the level that they did last year. This is a team effort and not only do I work to make the players better, but they help me to grow as a coach as well.

“One thing that stood out to me was that we are utilizing a lot of drills that the best players in the world use. There are still some things we can do to improve our program, but we are definitely headed in the right direction.”

The Cajuns open the fall season on Sept. 21 in Waco, Texas when they head to the Baylor Invitational.
