For the Ragin’ Cajuns, that was the case on both sides of the ball. A few items of note on the Cajun defense: » UL held ECU scoreless and without a first down in Saturday’s first quarter, marking the sixth time this year the Cajuns didn’t allow a point in the opening quarter; they went 5-1 in those six games, with only North Texas winning nevertheless » Senior cornerback Jemarlous Moten’s fourth-quarter interception Saturday was the seventh of his career; he finished this season with four, topped only by safety Rodney Gillis’ five. » Sophomore linebacker Trae Johnson started Saturday in place of the injured Jake Molbert (ACL tear) and finished with a team-high eight tackles, including seven solo stops; and » Junior linebacker Justin Anderson had four tackles and finished the season with a team-high 105. And few items of note on the Cajun offense» UL scored 461 points this season, breaking the old school » The Cajuns produced 5,914 yards this year, breaking the old record of 5,390 in 2008; » UL also made 268 first downs this season, 12 more than the old 1995 record of 256; and » UL’s offensive line — center Andre Huval, tackle Jaron Odom, tackle Leo Bates, guard Mykhael Quave and guard Daniel Quave — entered the game ranked 15th nationally in sacks allowed per with 12 in 12 and did not allow the Pirates any sacks. Bowl recordsSeveral bowl records fell and a few bowl firsts occurred Saturday. Among them: » UL quarterback Terrance Broadway (108 yards) and UL running back Alonzo Harris (120 yards) are the first set of teammates to each rush for 100-yards in bowl history » Harris and East Carolina running back Reggie Bullock both tied the bowl record for rushing touchdowns with two apiece, joining North Texas’ Patrick Cobbs (in 2003) and Middle Tennessee’s Dwight Dasher (in 2004); » UL kicker Brett Baer’s 50-yarder to end Saturday’s second half tied the bowl record for longest field goal, which Troy’s Michael Taylor set in 2010 and Baer matched with his game-winner against San Diego State in 2011.
