LAFAYETTE – Brock Appiah, Claire Meyers and Brooklynne Wilson each posted first-place finishes and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Track and Field team received solid performances in its first outdoor meet in nearly two years after the opening day of the Louisiana Classics on Friday at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility. Louisiana claimed titles in three of the eight events held in Friday’s opener – the first outdoor meet for the Ragin’ Cajuns since finishing the 2019 NCAA East Preliminary in May of 2019. The final day of the two-day event will start on Saturday at 10 a.m., with field events before running events begin at 2 p.m. Live results are available at RaginCajuns.com. Meyers closed out the first event of the day for Louisiana as she moved up the school’s all-time list after claiming the women’s javelin with a personal-best throw of 154 feet, 6 inches. The mark eclipsed her previous best (151-9) set in 2019 and was the second-best throw in school history behind the school-record set by Dorsey Steamer (160-1) in 1993. Wilson, making her first appearance in the women’s discus for Louisiana, cleared 175-11 on her third attempt of the day as her mark solidly placed her in second-place on the Ragin’ Cajuns all-time performance list and behind the school-record (180-11) set by Jo Jo Harris. Appiah led a 1-2-3-4 finish for Louisiana in the men’s 200-meter dash after clocking a time of 21.24 seconds. Nathan Fergusson (21.70), Trejun Jones (21.75) and Terroll Jolla (21.96) followed for Louisiana, which placed six runners in the top-20. Kiana Foster posted a time of 25.03 in the women’s 200-meters for Louisiana with Ta’La Spates (25.40) finishing fifth and Reina Ryan (25.56) eighth. Freshman Haley Salsbury placed eighth overall in the women’s 5,000-meters (19:37.33) for the Ragin’ Cajuns with Damian O’Boyle (15:47.41) finishing fifth in the men’s 5K followed by Conner Meche (16:23.18), Samuel Avants (16:31.34) and Braden Scalisi (17:01.47). Maria Bienvenu (144-8) and Ashley McMillin (140-0) each placed third in the women’s javelin and women’s discus respectively for Louisiana with McMillin’s throw the fifth-best in school history. Kaiden Burgess placed seventh overall in the men’s javelin (165-7) for Louisiana with Tyren Hannah finishing fourth in the men’s discus (148-3).
