Obituary: Charles Bordes, Baseball 1968-72, 1973 Graduate![]() Charles Desiré Bordes, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away unexpectedly on March 1, 2025, at the age of 74, surrounded by his family, who he cherished above all else. Charlie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on the 4th of July 1950, to Charles Bordes III and Marie Virginie Bordes (Chauvin). He was the third of eight children: Janet B. Stafford, John C. Bordes (Carolyn), Robert P. Bordes, Richard J. Bordes (Gerry), David M. Bordes, Suzanne R. Mangum (Kevin), and Michael C. Bordes (Jennifer). Charlie lived a life defined by devotion—to his loved ones, to his faith, and to the game of baseball, which brought his family together in the best of ways. Charlie met the love of his life, Jeannie (Cutler) Bordes, in Spokane, Washington at the AAA Spokane Indians Baseball Club where he was playing baseball. Jeannie worked as an administrative assistant to her father, who owned the team. They wed on December 21, 1975 and were looking forward to celebrating their upcoming 50th wedding anniversary. He is survived by his seven siblings; his wife, Jeannie; their six children and their spouses: Danielle Moore (Adam), Charlie Bordes (Jodi), Brett Bordes (Stephanie), Greg Bordes (Amber), Lindsay Piche (Nathan), and Kaylee Richoux (Cullen); his Grandkids: Mackenzie (Noah Baumann), Kaeden, Mya, Kael, Drew, Janie, Nellie, Baker, Scarlett, Brooks, Brenley, Nash, Noah, Lennon, Landry, Noxx, Luca, Beaux, Blake, Carter and Rhett; his great grandchildren: Kessley and her sibling expected in July 2025; and countless nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Bordes III, Marie Virginie Bordes (Chauvin); sister-in-laws, Karla Bordes, Sonia Bordes; brother-in-laws, J. C. Stafford, Sam Rosman; and his in-laws William Cutler and Delores Cutler (Cobo). Charlie was a dignitary at family gatherings. He was known for his vibrant personality, creative nick names, regular phone or video calls, and unwavering support. He never missed the opportunity to use one of his signature phrases, bringing an endearing levity to any situation. Whether he was teaching kids to swing a bat in the backyard, cheering from the bleachers at his grandchildren’s sporting events, or watching the grandkids take their first swings, his passion for family and baseball intertwined seamlessly. A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on April 4, 2025, at Praise & Worship Center (2551 N Arizona Ave, Unit 3, Chandler, AZ 85225), followed by refreshments, where friends and family are invited to share stories—and maybe even toss a baseball in his honor. His love of baseball was second only to the love of his family & God. He lived for the crack of the bat, the roar of the crowd, kisses from his grandbabies, music filled church services, and the embrace of family and friends. While he may have left life’s playing field, his legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. AN Footnote: Without knowledge of his passing, the AN had posted the 2017 Baseball Reunion of 2017 which featured the Bobby Banna Era USL Baseball players.
