Soccer: Louisiana Drops 2-0 Decision to No. 12 Texas A&MRagin’ Cajuns to wrap up spring campaign on March 27 at Baylor
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Taylor Ziemer broke a scoreless tie late in the first half with a goal and Laney Carroll added an insurance goal on a penalty kick in the 59th minute as No. 12-ranked Texas A&M earned a 2-0 victory over the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Soccer team on Saturday at Ellis Field. Louisiana, which dropped to 10-8-1 overall during the 2020-21 season, was held to a pair of shots in the match while facing its third SEC program during its five-match spring schedule. The Ragin’ Cajuns were out-shot 12-0 in the opening half with Texas A&M finding the back of the net on its 12th shot of the half when Ziemer received a pass from Macie Kolb late in the 43rd minute and proceeded to spin to the right before carefully placing a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal just past the glove of Louisiana goalkeeper Lauryn Starwood. Carroll added a second goal for the Aggies in the 59th minute after Louisiana was whistled for a foul in the Texas A&M 18-yard box. That was enough for Texas A&M (9-3-0), which was playing its second match of the spring and first since an stunning 3-2 loss to Rice on Monday. Louisiana got off its first shot of the night against a stellar Aggie back line when Lucy Ortiz’ attempt in the 78th minute sailed high. Hailey Daigle was credited with Louisiana’s final attempt when her shot in the 86th minute went over the crossbar. Starwood stopped eight shots for Louisiana, which will wrap up its Spring schedule on March 27 against Big 12 opponent Baylor.
