UL color analyst gets ESPN3 duty + Volleyball + Men’s TennisRagin’ Cajun football radio analyst Gerald Broussard is taking his show on the road. Broussard, an ex-UL player and assistant coach, has drawn an assignment from ESPN3 to be part of its broadcast team for Saturday’s game between Southeastern Louisiana and Lamar. It will be the first Broussard has called a game for the ESPN network. Cajuns undefeated in Pensacola Futures: PENSACOLA, Fla. – The UL Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis team saw all three players in action on Friday move on to the second round of singles qualifying at the UTSA Pensacola Futures held at the Roger Scott Tennis Center. “The guys will be the first to tell you that we didn’t have our best day from all three players, but they still found a way to win,” head coach Mark Jeffrey said. “The guys won the right points at the right time. That’s a sign they are maturing and understanding the game.” Junior Damian Farinola notched a straight set victory over Jonathon Stenberg of Sweden, 7-5, 6-2. “Damian did a good job of keeping his foot down after taking the first set 7-5 with an early break second set,” Jeffrey mentioned. Also moving on to the second day of competition was Carl Alberton and Jake Wynan. Alberton held on to defeat Joe Delinks, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, while Wynan gutted out a 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 decision against Jonathon Pearlman. “Carl played a great game to break at 5-4 in the third set,” Jeffrey added. “That was timely big point play. Jake’s match was a seesaw battle. He played a solid first set, but went walkabout for around two sets until he broke to even things at 6-6 in the third set before winning the tiebreaker 7-2.” UL volleyball falls to Georgia State: ATLANTA – Georgia State’s Dede Bohannon recorded 22 kills while Eliza Zachary collected 18 kills to lead the Panthers to a hard-fought 25-19, 27-29, 26-24, 30-28 victory over the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns in a Sun Belt Conference volleyball match on Friday at GSU Sports Arena. Sydney Hunsley and Kristina Stinson had 10 kills each as GSU (7-17, 2-8 Sun Belt) won its second consecutive match. Natalia Nieto registered a double-double for the Panthers with 58 assists and 13 digs with Emily Averbeck recording 27 digs. After dropping the opening set, Louisiana (15-9, 5-5 Sun Belt) withstood nine ties by GSU in the second frame before the Ragin’ Cajuns evened the match at a set apiece. A kill by Sara Mossakowski snapped a 27-27 deadlock before Lavinia Tataran finished off the set with the last of her three kills in the frame. The Cajuns fell behind 9-0 in the third set before staging a rally. Louisiana trailed 24-21 before a pair of kills by Tataran and a service ace by Kaylee Nemeth knotted the set at 24-24. But a service error by Nemeth and an attack error by Hole gave the Panthers their second set in the best-of-five match. Both teams continued to battle in the fourth that saw 15 ties and nine lead changes before GSU eventually rallied from set point and avoiding a decisive fifth frame. The Ragin’ Cajuns led 24-20 on a kill by Mossakowski, but Tataran followed with a service error and GSU scored the next four points to take a 25-24 lead. A kill by Mossakowski tied the match at 25-25 and the teams traded points until Hunsley snapped a 28-all tie with a kill and Nieto followed with a kill. Molly Shonk added 17 digs for the Panthers, which held an 83-78 advantage over the Ragin’ Cajuns. Hole posted a double-double – her team-leading 14th of the season – for the Ragin’ Cajuns with 50 assists and 15 digs while Caitlyn Auxilien had 23 digs.
