Bobby Banna’s Living Memorial, Charles Bordes – Baseball 1969-72

I think it goes without saying that we all have a special person that comes into our lives at the right moment and creates a very profound and impactful impression on their future.

In my life it was undoubtedly Coach Bobby Banna. He took a chance on a skinny weak-hitting shortstop from New Orleans as one of his first recruits for his first season as baseball coach.

He demanded a lot from his players, but was always fair and honest. He gave me the opportunity to not only excel as a athlete, but was more interested in how I developed as a person and a man.

His demanding schedule as both a football and baseball coach was always a juggling act and through it all he was a great family man.

He and his beautiful wife, Charlene have raised three very successful daughters and like their parents have been a great asset to their communities.

I honestly believe that in order to be a great coach you have to first be a great man with great morals and great character.

He not only had these characteristics, but unselfishly passed them on to all the players that he coached.

Next to my father he was the most influential male figure in my life and I’m proud to say that I was part of his coaching legacy.
