NEW ORLEANS – The 63rd-ranked Louisiana men’s tennis team rolled to a 7-0 sweep of New Orleans as the Cajuns won their eighth straight match to close out the regular season on Sunday.
With the win, the Cajuns move to 18-4 on the season and have posted the most wins in a season since the 1994 squad went 19-4.
Louisiana did not drop a set in the match winning at all three doubles lines and taking each of the six singles matches in straight sets.
In doubles, the 76th-ranked team of Jake Wynan and Rick de Groot defeated Timo Kranz and Rui Silva, 8-5, on court one to pick up their 10th victory of the spring.
Edgar Lopez/Damian Farinola recorded an 8-5 victory against Christoffer Appelgre and Romain Lefevre to notch their team-leading 14th win.
In singles, Hunter Johnson moved to 14-0 on the year after winning a 6-4, 6-1 decision against Christoffer Appelgre at the No. 5 position.
Carl Alberton won his 11th straight match on court six defeating Luis Alburquerque, 6-2, 6-3.
The Ragin’ Cajuns are back in action next week as they head to the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Championships in New Orleans from April 18-20.
