After graduating from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, Kia moved to New Orleans to attend Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center for the CARE Nursing Program. While in the program Kia was named a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nursing Students recipient and given the Patricia Losee Memorial Award. Kia graduated from LSUHSC-New Orleans in May of 2019 and began working shortly thereafter. Her nursing career started in the Emergency Department Observation Unit before moving to the Intensive Care Unit at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. Kia is now a traveling nurse and has taken assignments in California and Texas working in critical care.
