Home Phone: -- Obituary: Sawyer Elizabeth Camillo Sawyer Elizabeth Camillo 18 of Argyle TX, student at University of Louisiana, Lafayette, passed away December 22, 2012 at Presbyterian Hospital in Denton. She was born in Lewisville to Donald A. and Lori Naughton Camillo. Sawyer was a loving, loyal, compassionate friend to everyone she met. She possessed a bright light within her that she shared with a flash of her smile. A talented athlete and avid sports fan. She felt her sports injuries were God’s way of guiding her in to a study of Physical Therapy where her experiences might be used to help others. She is present with our Lord and for that we are grateful, but this has left a huge hole in our hearts here. Sawyer was a graduate of Argyle High School and was currently attending the University of Louisiana, Lafayette (ULL). While at ULL, she was very proud to be a member of the “Ragin Cajun” Volleyball team and Cajuns for Christ. While at Argyle High School, she was a four year varsity starter for the Argyle Volleyball team garnering many awards including “All State Volleyball” and was a team Captain. She belonged to National Honor Society, FCA, Young Life and Students Standing Strong and was a charter member of Challenge Day. She was a member of Denton Bible Church. The family will be at DeBerry Funeral Directors for Visitation on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 6-8 pm. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Denton Bible Church with Rev. Tommy Nelson officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Denton, TX. Sawyer is survived by her parents; Donald and Lori Camillo of Argyle, brothers, Ben Camillo of Dallas, Josh Camillo of Argyle, Grandmother Evalyn Naughton of Denton and Aunt and Uncle Judy and Walt Collins of Flower Mound; Uncle and Aunt Jack and Sheila Naughton of Denton; Uncle Barrett Naughton of Corinth; Aunt and Uncle Donna and Leon Substelny of Durham, NC. Cousin Katy Collins Grote and husband Bill with sons Cooper and Carter, and many loving friends. Sawyer was preceded in death by cousin, Kyle Collins, Grandparents Willard Naughton, Samuel and Eleanor Camillo. Obituary posted on DeBerry Funeral Directors website, Dec. 23, 2012 * * * * * * * * * * Cajuns Mourn The Loss Of Volleyball’s Sawyer Camillo LAFAYETTE, La. — The Louisiana athletic department mourns the loss of freshman volleyball player Sawyer Camillo, who passed away suddenly on Saturday (Dec. 22) at her home in Argyle, Texas. “On behalf of the entire Louisiana athletic department, our condolences go out to Sawyer’s family and her many friends,†Louisiana Director of Athletics Scott Farmer said. “It is never easy to understand the loss of somebody who was as vibrant and energetic as Sawyer was. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family. She will be greatly missed.†“Sawyer was an extraordinary young woman,†Louisiana head coach Heather Mazeitis-Fontenot said. “Her easy smile and generous demeanor made her a fast friend to all of us. She was eager to lend a hand and had a true love of being Ragin’ Cajun. “She was beautiful, caring and had a silly side that was wonderful. Sawyer was always making everyone laugh or feel good in some way. She was a true reflection of what our volleyball program and our university strive to recruit. She was amazing,†Mazeitis-Fontenot added. Camillo, a 6-1 middle blocker, was medically unable to play during the recently completed 2012 season because of pain that came with a back injury. “Sawyer knew that she wasn’t going to be able to play this year because of her back so she focused on helping the team in any way that she could,†Mazeitis-Fontenot said. â€She traveled on every road trip and was there cheering on the sideline during every match. Camillo was a four-year starter at Argyle (Texas) High, earning district newcomer of the year honors as a freshman and district defensive player of the year kudos as a sophomore and junior. An all-state selection as a sophomore, she also earned all-district mention as a senior. Brian McCann
