Golf: Magnus and Cruz Valle Land On LSWA All-Louisiana Golf TeamsLAFAYETTE, La. – Ragin’ Cajuns golfers Haraldur Magnus and Fernando Cruz Valle were tabbed to the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) All-Louisiana Golf Team, the LSWA announced this week. Both Magnus and Cruz Valle were named to the All-Louisiana Second Team.
I’m very pleased and really proud to have these two fine young men represent our university,” head coach Theo Sliman said. “I think this shows who we will be leaning on for leadership next season. Both young men have had a great first year in our program and this will be a stepping stone to hopefully a great career.”
Both Magnus (first team) and Cruz Valle (second team) were named to the 2014 All-Sun Belt team earlier this month.
Magnus finished the season with a team-best 73.24 stroke average in 34 rounds. He carded 12 rounds of par or better and finished in the top 25 in six of seven spring tournaments including a win at the Memphis Intercollegiate. Magnus finished inside the top 10 in four events.
Cruz Valle became the second golfer under Sliman to earn Sun Belt Freshman of the Year honors. A native of The Woodlands, Texas, Cruz Valle recorded a 73.39 scoring average in 33 rounds. The freshman posted 11 rounds of par or better and finished in the top 5 in four events this year.
