They pride themselves on strong pitching, solid defense and timely hitting. The Ragin’ Cajuns enjoyed all three Saturday, and it helped the nation’s No. 1-ranked team stay alive in the NCAA Lafayette Regional. Centerfielder Seth Harrison went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored, shortstop Blake Trahan had three hits as well and catcher Michael Strentz’s early three-run homer lifted UL past San Diego State 9-2 in an elimination loser’s-bracket game front of 3,591 at M.L. The timely hitting, said UL coach Tony Robichaux, whose 54-8 Cajuns were stunned by a 1-0 NCAA Tournament-opening loss to Jackson State, was "the only thing we didn’t do (Friday night)." "So tonight we feel a lot better about ourselves, because we won, because we got timely hitting," said Robichaux, who Cajuns will face the loser of Saturday night’s Jackson State-vs.-Mississippi State late game in a 1 p.m. elimination loser’s-bracket game at The Tigue.
