With every twist and turn along the way, Le’Marcus Gibson wondered if he would get another chance to play NCAA Division I football. He worked his way up to the second string in preseason camp but suffered a partially torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee a few days before a Week 2 road win over Louisiana Tech. Gibson underwent corrective surgery and left the program that spring. Gibson did not complete rehab on his knee before the 2008 season but still recorded 45 tackles and three interceptions that year at MGCCC. After the deal with Duke fell through, Gibson held an offer from Nicholls State and had interest from UAB, Ohio and North Texas before coming to UL. “I know I’m back ready to play, and that my knee is fixed,” Gibson said. “I know what I can do and want to show the (UL) coaches what I can do.” Fouquier think that the Cajuns got a steal in Gibson. “I fell in love with the kid from the first time I met him,” Fouquier said. “If you watch his highlight tape from high school, you would say ‘Holy cow.’ We just didn’t have a slot right now for a safety, otherwise he would be on scholarship. “He seems like a great kid, as good as you can find, and we’re happy to have him.”
