The University of Louisiana at Lafayette and the Ragin’ Cajuns Lettermen Club are proud to announce the 2009 Athletic Hall of Fame inductees. They are Rocky Guidry – Track and Field; Jennifer Heno Marsh – Tennis; Becky McMurtry – Softball; and Stephen Spinella – Football.

Rocky Guidry (Track & Field) was a 4-year letterman in football and track & field at UL from 1990-94 – he was a stellar football player but enters the hall of fame as an accomplished track athlete. Rocky was a 3-time All Conference Champion in javelin, a 4-time All-Louisiana selection, placed 12th and 13th in the 1991 and 1992 NCAA Championships and participated in the 1991 Olympic Festival where he placed 7th. In 1991, his throw of 235’9″ set the American South Conference record as well as the UL record – those records still stand today. Rocky also holds the Sun Belt Conference record of 232’6″ set in 1992. Rocky received a General Studies degree from UL in 1995. He is employed by Medline Industries in Lafayette, LA.

Jennifer Heno Marsh (Tennis) was 4-time letterman in tennis from 1988-91. She was a 3-time American South Conference Singles Champion in 1988, 89 and 90; and a 3-time American South Doubles Champion in 1988, 89 and 91. Jennifer was also a 3-time All-Louisiana selection and set an American South Conference record for number of championships won at six. Jennifer received General Studies degree from UL in 1992. She is Sales Manager for Louisiana Network in Baton Rouge, LA.

Becky McMurtry (Softball) was a 2-time softball letterman at UL in 2002 and 2003 after transferring to UL. In 2002 Becky was named All-Sun Belt 1st Team; Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year; Sun Belt Player of the Year; All-Louisiana 1st Team; All-South Region 1st Team; and second team All-American. 2003 had Becky earning Sun Belt Conference 1st Team honors; Sun Belt Player of the Year; Louisiana Hitter of the Year; All-Louisiana 1st Team; All-South Region 1st Team; and second team All-American. Stephen was named to the USL All Ragin’ Cajun 25 Year Football Team. Today, Stephen remains the all-time tackle leader for the university with 386 career tackles – 212 were solo tackles. Stephen received a General Studies degree from UL in 1996. He is owner of Spartan Industrial Products in Houma, LA.

The purpose of the UL Lafayette Hall of Fame is to give recognition to those athletes who have made a significant contribution to the good name of the University by demonstrating exceptional ability and sportsmanship on the playing fields, commendable scholarship in the classroom, high quality leadership on the campus, and who after leaving the University have established a personal reputation for character and citizenship in the community which they reside.

“Our goal is to remind each new generation of athletes of the tradition they must uphold and the ideals that they should strive for while they are wearing the UL Lafayette uniforms,” said Ragin’ Cajuns Lettermen Club President Tom Carroll (UL Baseball ’71-’74).

The Ragin’ Cajuns Lettermen Club Alumni Chapter is comprised of men and women who lettered in athletics while they were students at SLI/USL/UL Lafayette. The Ragin’ Cajuns Lettermen Club is a constituent chapter of the UL Lafayette Alumni Association and it retains close ties to the Athletic Department.
