Home Phone: 803-749-0771 Don provided the information below in preparation for the 2001 Shipley Reunion. It will serve as his Living Memorial for the Shipley Tribute. Basketball player, 1957 – 59. Married to Cynthia Carr in 1961. Two daughters (Lisa Hutchinson and Dana Carnaggio) both of Columbia, SC and three “wonderful” grandsons (Jake & Josh Hutchinson) and (Gavin Carnaggio) I was recruited to SLI by Coach Shipley in 1957 from Ashland, KY along with Dale Griffith and Howard Humphreys. Upon arriving at SLI, Coach Shipley made a country boy from KY feel at home. Both he and his family showed a genuine interest and concern for each player. After leaving SLI, I spent two years in the U.S. Army (1959-61). I then began working for Armco Steel in Ashland Ky. and retired as Supervisor in 1992. I then went to work for Mono Ceramics as a Project Manager for slag control@ AK Steel, Ashland Works. My wife and I are now retired and live in Columbia SC enjoying our kids and grand kids. It was evident from my first days at SLI, Coach Shipley was a winner. His dedication and hard work ethic proved this to be true. He tried to instill the same attitude and desires in each of his team members. My life has been enriched by those I’ve met and enjoyed in Lafayette. We continue to stay busy in our church and watching our grandsons playing baseball, football, and soccer.
