Powerlifter Michael Broussard finished 2nd at Jr. Worlds
On Wednesday, September 09, 2009, Brazil hosted the IPF (International
Powerlifting Federation) Jr. Worlds. Michael
Broussard, a ULL powerlifter and a 2 time collegiate national champion, was
picked to represent USA in the 148 weight class at the IPF Jr. Worlds. Going into the contest Broussard was predicted
to finish second to last, which inspired Brossard to train harder than he had ever
trained before. His determination paid off
September 9th when he finished second at IPF Jr. Worlds in the 148
weight class. Broussard gained over 100
pounds in strength between his qualifying meet and the Jr. Worlds meet, which
is an outstanding feat in itself. At Jr.
Worlds he finished with a 265kg/584 LB squat, 187.5kg/413 LB bench-press,
250kg/551 LB dead lift, and 702.5kg/1548 LB total. Not only did Brossard finish second at Jr.
Worlds representing USA, he also broke the Collegiate American bench-press
record with his 413lb bench press. This contest is a weeklong event and at
present the USA team is in third place with the help of Broussard behind Russia
and Japan. The final results of the
event will be Saturday, September 12, 2009.
