Home Phone: -- Ivan Baker, who lettered as a pole vaulter in 1938. He served from June 1942 to Sept, ’45 in the Army and was a first lieutentant when he got out. He served in France and Germany under George Patton as a forward artillery observer from Nov. 1944 to July 1945 and was awarded the Bronze Star for actions under fire in Alsace in late 1944. He was also in the group under Patton that rushed to the relief of Bastogne during the Battle of Bulge. Ironically, both his daughters (my sister-in law was born while Mr. Baker was overseas) married men with considerable German ancestry.
