Royce Harlan Whittington, Football 1959 & 60, Obituary Posted

Royce Harlan Whittington

A resident of Baton Rouge, Royce passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at Ochsner Hospital-Baton Rouge. He was 71 and a native of Terry, Miss. He was an educator and coach for 40 years. Royce was a longtime member of the Covington Masonic Lodge 188 and Istrouma Baptist Church. Royce is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Norma Beyl Whittington; two daughters and sons-in-law, Shondra W. and Terry W. Broussard, and Shelly W. and David H. Jenks; son and daughter-in-law, Michael B. and Shelley G. Whittington; six grandchildren, Sara Broussard, Hunter Jenks and wife Hannah, Dylan Jenks, Kate, Cole and William Whittington; and three great-grandchildren, Blake, Louden and Aulden. Also survived by his sister, Sammie L. Whittington; brother, William Duane Whittington; seven sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, S.W. and Lois Whittington. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral service from Istrouma Baptist Church in Baton Rouge on Thursday, Feb. 4, at 11:30 a.m., with visiting beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Rev. Ron Lambe will officiate the services. A reception for family and friends will follow the funeral services. A graveside service will take place at 3 p.m. at Carter Cemetery in Springfield. Pallbearers will be Hunter and Dylan Jenks, Sam Whittington, Bart Kennedy, Wayne Flynt and Joshua Patterson. Honorary pallbearers are Cole and William Whittington, David Jenks and Terry Broussard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Istrouma Baptist Church, 10500 Sam Rushing Road, Baton Rouge, LA 70816 or Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home, P.O.
