I had played football at SLI in 1951 and 1952 and had reported for the 1953 football season when I was drafted. I served in the Army until 1955 and returned to play football in 1955 and 1956.

I was in the US Army from 1953 to 1955! After induction at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio I was sent to Camp Chaffee Arkansas for basic training. From there I was sent to Kitzigen, Germany for 18 months. I served in the First Infantry Division (also known as “The Big Red Oneâ€) as a Courts and Board clerk!!
