Baseball: A home run kind of weekendStaff Report, The Advertiser, June 7, 2015
U
Saturday night ended with a home run, and Sunday began with one. The Cajuns fell to LSU 6-3 Sunday in front of a crowd of nearly 12,000. The match was scoreless until the seventh inning, when LSU’s Kade Scivicque hit a home run to left field, and the runs piled in afterward. LSU now heads to Omaha for the College World Series. Here’s how both LSU and UL fans reacted to the game-winning home run in the first match of the Super Regional Saturday night. Bob Gedie — LSU It was very similar to the feeling in the Old Alex Box when we came back to beat UC Irvine in 2008. That’s how loud it was (after Chris Sciambra’s game-winning home run). It wasn’t quite football loud, but it was close. I actually got on national TV, it was right on a commercial break and it froze on me for a second and my phone just lit up. Wayne Elmore — UL I think the most exciting thing that I saw was, now we’re all good friends we love LSU, but it was how quiet the crowd got after (Brenn Conrad’s home run). That silence was the best thing I’ve heard in sports for a long time. We’re very impressed with this stadium it is an incredible facility, and the crowd was nice throughout. It was good clean and competitive. Jerry Hall — UL We weren’t in the stadium last night, but we have tickets for tonight and we’re very excited. We watched it on TV last night. My son and I actually wore different shirts on purpose because he supports LSU and I’m a UL guy. We live in Lafayette. Mike Conrad (Brenn Conrad’s dad) — UL (After Brenn’s home run) I just started laughing. It was surreal. I just wish we would’ve won, but that’s why we’re here today. I had a friend call me and he told me he’d pay $5,000 to hear the silence in stadium after the home run one more time.
