Update: Funeral arrangements for Andrea Brodhead have been announced by the family. The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Martin & Castille Funeral Home on East Farrel Road. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church on Robley Drive in Lafayette. Original story: Andrea Brodhead, the matriarch of perhaps the Acadiana area’s most influential basketball family, died Thursday night after a long bout with cancer, according to family friends. Brodhead is the wife of UL women’s basketball coach Garry Brodhead. The Brodhead family began the Acadiana Stars AAU program, which created opportunities for countless area girls basketball prospects to get exposure and achieve their dreams of playing college basketball. Their oldest daughter, Ashley, played at St. Thomas More, played collegiately at Stephen F. Austin and later won two state championships as a head coach at St. Thomas More. Their middle child, Blair, helped Garry Brodhead’s Teurlings Catholic program become a regular at the then-Sweet 16, a stretch that included a state championship in 2002. She later played for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Blair is also married to Brad Boyd, who is a former All-State player at St. Thomas More, former UL star shooter and currently the head boys basketball coach at Opelousas High. Beau played basketball and was a star defensive back at St. Thomas More. The Brodheads have three grandchildren – Cellie and Emmie Richard and Brynnan Boyd. Visitation is scheduled for 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at Martin & Castille Funeral Home, Southside location, 600 East Farrel Road in Lafayette. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Holy Cross Church, 415 Robley Drive in Lafayette.
