Men’s Tennis: Men s Tennis Alum Damian Farinola Enjoying Pro SuccessLAFAYETTE — Former Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns men’s tennis student-athlete Damian Farinola continues to build on his tennis career, this time on the ATP World Professional Tennis Tour.
Farinola, a native of Adelaide, Australia, defeated Denys Molchanov, the 104th ranked ATP player in the world at the 75,000 Challenger Event in Happy Valley, Australia.
The 2014 All-Sun Belt Conference second team selection advanced to the final round of qualifiers to Maverick Banes in pursuit of five ATP points.
"I know Damian has been training with Victor Troicki, who is ranked in the Top 20 in the world and Jack Reader (Troicki’s coach)," Ragin’ Cajuns head coach Mark Jeffrey said. "I think training with both of them really gave Damian the boost he needed to be able to achieve such a result.
"I believe from here Damian can go on and have a really successful 2016 season on the ATP Tour," Jeffrey added. "We could see him play in a major [tournament] come 2017."
The Cajuns men’s tennis team will kick off their season on January 16th vs. Lamar at 1 p.m.
