Softball: Cajuns Set New Season Ticket Record

LAFAYETTE – For the second straight season, a new season ticket record has been set for the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball program.

And, for the first time those ticket sales have generated more than $100,000.00 in ticket revenue.

"This is another testament to the long-standing tradition of success for our nationally ranked softball program," Louisiana Director of Athletics Scott Farmer said. "The coaches, student-athletes and fans are who continue to make this program unparalleled in college softball."

Entering Friday’s 2 p.m., home opener at Lamson Park vs. No. 5 Oregon, 890 season tickets have been sold. The tally eclipses the previous mark of 873 set in 2015.

"Ordinary softball programs are not thought of as ‘revenue generators’ or as a ‘business’ unto itself," Louisiana softball head coach Michael Lotief said. "Our program is not ordinary because our program is a reflection of our awesome fans and the Ragin’ Cajuns community that has always supported and believed in this program."

"We have so many loyal fans who have supported softball for many years and now it is exciting to continue to grow the fan base," Lotief added. "It is so motivating and inspirational to our players to play in front of crowds of passionate fans who love and care about them."

There are still season tickets available for purchase. Season ticket packages for all 24 games, starting at $106, remain on sale and can be purchased in person at the Cajundome Box Office, on RaginCajuns.com or by phone at (337) 265-2357.

Since the reconfiguration of Lamson Park – beginning with the 2012 season – Louisiana has ranked Top 20 nationally in attendance each of the past four seasons (2012-15). The Ragin’ Cajuns came in at the No. 6 spot last season with an average of 1,464 fans in attendance in 2015, which marked a finished in the Top 10 of the attendance rankings for the second straight season.

"Our fans are just like our team: committed to excellence, hard working, and put their heart and soul into being the best," Lotief stated. "The special bond between this community and our fans and this program and our players is what makes Ragin’ Cajuns Softball consistent, sustainable and unique."

The 7th-ranked Ragin’ Cajuns (5-0) return to action this weekend for their Lamson Park season debut, hosting the 30th Annual Louisiana Classics tournament Friday-Sunday, Feb. 19-21. The Ragin’ Cajuns start the event with a 2 p.m., doubleheader against No. 5 Oregon on Friday, Feb. 19.
