Football: McGuire named Sun Belt Offensive Player of Week

UL senior running back Elijah McGuire has been named this week’s Sun Belt Conference offensive Player of the Week.

McGuire ran 23 times for 223 yards and one touchdown, a key 68-yarder in the fourth quarter, in the 2-1 Ragin’ Cajuns’ 28-23 Sun Belt-opening win over South Alabama last Saturday night at Cajun Field.

The effort marked McGuire’s 14th career 100-yard rushing game, and his second with more than 200 yards along with a career-high 265 against Arkansas State in 2014.

Georgia State defensive back Bobby Baker (11 tackles and a fumble recovery in a loss at No. 9 Wisconsin) was named Sun Belt defensive Player of the Week.

Troy kicker Ryan Kay (three made field goals, 4-of-4 on PATs and 41.0-yard average on nine punts against Southern Mississippi) was named special teams Player of the Week.
