Track & Field: Walker, Whitehall Pace Ragin’ Cajuns at LSU Purple Tiger InviteBATON ROUGE – Taylor Walker and Tristan Whitehall each claimed individual titles and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns indoor track and field team officially opened its 2017 season on Friday at the LSU Purple Tiger Invitational at the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse. Matt Wilson and Meredith Driskell each earned second-place finishes in the pole vault with newcomer Damon Guidry earning a second-place finish in the high jump. Walker claimed the women’s triple jump crown for Louisiana as she recorded a mark of 39 feet, 11 ¼ inches. Competing in the men’s shot put, Whitehall recorded a throw of 56-6 to claim first-place honors with teammate Spencer Nezat finishing eighth (47-11 ¾). Wilson cleared the bar at 15-6 ¼ to finish second in the men’s pole vault for Louisiana with Driskell clearing 12-3 ¼ in the women’s pole vault for the Ragin’ Cajuns. Freshman Kimberly Rushford finished fifth overall for Louisiana (11-3 ½) with Alexa Johnson finishing eighth (11-3 ½). Competing in his first collegiate meet, Guidry finished tied for second in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6-4 ¼. Tyler Hughes was one of four Cajuns to earn third-place finishes as he recorded a time of 8.35 in the 60-meter hurdles with Richard Delphin posting a mark of 54-6 in the men’s weight throw and Tamela Young (44-4) in the women’s shot put. In the men’s triple jump, Ricky Theyard finished fourth overall after posting a mark of 48-6 ¼. Stanley Limoh finished third overall in the men’s 800-meter run (1:59.08) with Christian Bergeron (1:59.29) fourth and Matt Rice (2:01.83) seventh. Beau Robinson (4:25.40) and Jacob Chicola (4:36.17) finished fourth and seventh, respectively, in the men’s 1-mile run with John-Paul Bergeron (1:24.11) and Craig Rock (1:25.02) finishing fifth and eighth overall in the 600-meter run. Baton Rouge native Kayla Thompson finished fourth for Louisiana in the women’s 200-meter dash (25.69) with D’Sharee Collins (1:00.50) and Hannah Siegmund (1:01.40) finishing seventh and eighth in the 400-meter dash. Louisiana will return to action on Friday (Jan. 13) when it travels to College Station, Texas to compete in the Aggie Team Invitational at Gilliam Indoor Stadium. The meet will be streamed live on SEC Network Plus.
