Women’s Basketball: Gordon First Team All-Louisiana, Fields On Third Team
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns women’s basketball team had two players named to the All-Louisiana Women’s Basketball Teams, as the Louisiana Sports Writers Association announced on Friday.
Senior guard Jaylyn Gordon was named to the first team while junior forward Simone Fields was named to the third team.
Gordon, who also earned First Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors, led the league in scoring (17.9 ppg) and was second in 3-point field goals made per game (2.4). She was second in the nation in minutes played per game (38.6).
Fields was also named Second Team All-Sun Belt Conference and was sixth in the league in scoring (14.5 ppg) and third in field goal percentage (.542). She was sixth in the Sun Belt in rebounds per game (7.2) and second in offensive rebounds per game (3.7).
LSU junior guard Raigyne Moncrief was voted the Louisiana Sports Writers Association State Player of the Year by a vote of the state media and sports information directors after leading the Tigers to an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
LSU teammate Chloe Jackson was named Newcomer of the Year, Southeastern Louisiana guard Charliee Dugas earned the Freshman of the Year and Loyola of New Orleans coach Kellie Kennedy was tabbed the Coach of the Year.
