Baseball: Red Team Clinches Fall World Series

 

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Red Team used a five-run second inning to roll to an 8-7 victory over the White Team and clinch the 2017 Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Baseball Fall World Series on Tuesday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
After Jonathan Windham gave the White squad a 3-0 advantage in the first inning on a two-run, two-out single, the Red Team grabbed the lead for good with a five-run second inning highlighted by a two-run double by Connor Dupuy and an RBI triple by O’Neal Lochridge.
 
Lochridge gave the Red Team an 8-3 advantage with a three-run blast in the bottom of the third.
 
The White Team clawed away at the lead with a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to cut the Red Team lead to 8-6.
 
Haden Erbe closed out the game for the Red Team tossing two innings allowing one run on four walks and a strikeout to pick up the save.
 
KEY CONTRIBUTORS
 
Lochridge led the Red Team offensively going 2-for-2 with a triple, home run, four RBI and scored twice. Junior Gavin Bourgeois also went 2-for-2 with a double, drove in a run and scored once.
 
Monroe Moll had two hits for the White Team with an RBI and scored a run. Senior Dylan Moore tossed two scoreless innings in relief for the White squad with two strikeouts.
 
ON DECK
 
Louisiana opens the 2018 season on Feb. 16-18 in Austin, Texas against the Texas Longhorns. The Ragin’ Cajuns open their home slate on Feb. 23-25 against Wright State at Russo Park.
