NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns track and field athletes Bartul Basic and Beau Robinson each claimed accolades from the Sun Belt Conference as the league released its Athlete of the Week Awards on Wednesday.
Basic, a senior from Split, Croatia, was named the Sun Belt Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week after claiming top honors in the javelin at last week’s Louisiana Classics. The two-time defending SBC champion posted a throw of 232 feet, 9 inches in his 2018 debut for the Ragin’ Cajuns and claiming first place and recording the fifth-best throw in the nation this season.

The former Hahnville High product shaved nearly 18 seconds off his personal-best after recording a time of 9:08.86 last Friday at the Louisiana Classics, the ninth-fastest time in the country.
