Former Volleyball: Alum Chanelle Gardner Captures Gold Medal at USA Volleyball Open

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball alum Chanelle Gardner (2013-16) claimed a gold medal competing at the 2018 USA Volleyball Open National Championships.
Gardner helped guide Team Dream to the championship title of the Women’s Open Division in the event held at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas. Her squad defeated Hoosier Exterminators on May 29 to collect the title.
Gardner and her teammates posted an undefeated run throughout the tournament, finishing with a 7-0 record.
Team Dream was forced to a fifth set three times and came away winners each time including rallying from a 0-2 deficit against Team Freedom in the semifinals.

Gardner, a member of the Ragin’ Cajuns Volleyball team from 2013-16, was the first to reach 1,000 kills playing an entire career under the format which was adopted in 2001. She was the premier middle blocker for the Ragin’ Cajuns, finishing as the team leader in blocks all four years of her career and totaling 365 in her career (second-most in rally scoring era).
She began her professional playing career in Germany last fall, competing with VC Printus Offenburg in Germany’s Bundesliga.
