ABOUT THE ELFRID PAYTON FOUNDATION

The Elfrid Payton Foundation is committed to empowering youth in the areas of health, education, and  arts and culture. Payton has proven himself to be a major difference-maker in the community. To date through his Elfrid Payton Foundation, Payton has impacted the lives of more than 4,000 children. In February 2017, Elfrid Payton  was awarded with the national NBA Community Assist Award by the NBA which is awarded to the top player who has gone above and beyond off the court for his #IAMME Arts & Culture Program.  The 10-week curriculum gave students in afterschool programs a unique opportunity to participate in artistic expression through dance, visual arts, poetry, and musicianship. The program’s goal was to help build confidence and promote creative expression skills which dramatically improved the participants behavior and attendance.

In March 2017, Payton’s generous efforts off the court earned him the prestigious Rich and Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award for the 2016-17 season. The Award honors a player who has dedicated his efforts off the court for the purpose of enhancing the lives of others.

Payton has renovated computer labs, distributed school supplies to the entire school at Gretna Middle School, visited terminally-ill children in hospitals, sponsored youth groups tickets to attend games to have their first ever NBA experience, participated in court renovations, distributed toys and books to families in need during the holidays, sponsor youth basketball teams, and so much more.
