CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS – Freshman Ai Noa Fabre’s first collegiate tournament continued to be a good one as on Saturday, Sept. 15, she picked up two wins in singles on her way to reaching the finals of the Fish Draw, pacing Louisiana Women’s Tennis as they picked up seven wins in singles across several draws at the second day of the Contender CrossFit Islander Open in Corpus Christi, Texas.

FABRE STEALS THE SHOW: Fabre, who already has two wins in doubles over the weekend, added two more wins in singles, starting with a dominating 8-0 win over Incarnate Words’ Taylor Parkinson.

Fabre would then need to earn her spot in the finals of the Fish Draw, holding off Texas A&M – Corpus Christi’s Maria Maldonado in the semifinals match, winning 8-6, to punch her ticket to the finals and a Sunday matchup with UT-Rio Grande Valley’s Ana Platisa.

OTHER CAJUNS JOIN THE WIN PARTY: Fabre was not alone in getting wins throughout the day for Louisiana, with the Ragin’ Cajuns collecting five more wins from several different places.

Sophomore Morgan Forshag cruised to an 8-0 win over UTRGV’s Alicia Thal, to advance to the semifinals of the Turtle Draw.  While junior Clara Mantaux took down UT-San Antonio’s Omoworare, 8-1, to move into the semis of the Palm Tree draw.

In the Ocean Draw, considered to be the number one draw, sophomore Floriane Picaut won her first-round match, 8-6, keeping UIW’s Jelena Dordan at bay to advance to the semis in the draw.  Despite dropping her first-round match, 8-2, freshman Hoda Habib bounced back, dominating her next match 8-0 against Lamar’s Dominique Leh to advance to the fifth-place match in the Turtle Draw.

Sophomore Dana Radovanovic won her first-round match, 8-2, against Texas A&M – Kingsville’s Victoria Romanovskaia to move into the semifinals of the Beach Draw.  But Radovanovic suffered a loss in the semis, 8-4, to Lamar’s Vitale, to get knocked into the third-place match.

One of the more competitive matches on the day, unfortunately for Louisiana, resulted in a loss as junior Marina Rodriguez Garcia lost in a tiebreaker, 7-6(2), to Lamar’s Sola to move into the backdraw in the Wave Draw.

SUNDAY’S ACTION: The Islander Open will conclude on Sunday, with Fabre going for a championship in both singles and doubles, along with the rest of the Ragin’ Cajuns all looking to finish what they have started, with the goal of coming away from the weekend with solid results.
