Golf:Ragin’ Cajuns Unveil 2021-22 Golf Schedule

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Men’s Golf Coach Theo Sliman officially unveiled his 2021-22 schedule on Thursday, featuring 11 events during the season leading up to the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championships.
Louisiana, which will open its season Sept. 12-14 at Louisiana Tech’s Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, will travel to five events during the fall portion of the schedule. Return trips to UTSA’s Lone Star Invitational (Sept. 20-21), UAB’s Graeme McDowell Invitational (Sept. 27-28) and Hawaii’s Hoakalei CC Invitational (Oct. 25-26) are part of the fall schedule which also includes a trip to Michigan State’s Quail Valley Invitational on Oct. 17-18 in Vero Beach, Fla.
"We are very excited with our 2021-22 competition schedule," Sliman said. "This schedule ranks as one of our strongest in my tenure as a coach and I feel very confident that this team ranks as one of the most competitive teams in that same tenure.
"Our success will be determined by three very simple principles – appreciation, hard work and playing for one another. When we successfully complete these three tasks, this very talented group will accomplish some special achievements this year. I am eager to work with and watch the growth of this team."
The Ragin’ Cajuns open the spring portion of their schedule Feb. 14-15, 2022 at South Alabama’s Mobile Bay Intercollegiate before heading west to compete in the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate from Feb. 28-March 2 at Reflection Bay Golf Club.
Louisiana will host the 37th annual Louisiana Classics on March 14-15, 2022 at Oakbourne Country Club. The 15-team field will include 10 schools that were ranked in the GolfStat Top 100, including four schools ranked in the top 50 – Texas A&M, Sam Houston, LSU and Little Rock.
"We are equally excited to host our home event for the 37th year," said Sliman. "We are very grateful to have such support from our local community and seeing the type of teams that return is certainly a testament to all that are involved.
"Once again, we will see some of the top college golf programs in the nation making the journey to compete in our home event. This will certainly give our team an opportunity to showcase that we are a talented group that expects to compete at a high level."
Louisiana will close out the spring with events at The All-American in Houston (March 21-22), the Craft Farms Intercollegiate in Gulf Shores, Ala., (March 27-29) and the Mossy Oaks Collegiate in West Point, Miss., (April 11-12).
The Sun Belt Conference Championships will return to Mystic Creek Golf Club in El Dorado, Ark., from April 24-27, 2022, with the NCAA Regionals set for May 15-18. The NCAA Championships will return to Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., from May 27-June 1.
Louisiana returns four starters and seven letterwinners from its 2020-21 squad, including All-Sun Belt Conference performers Charlie Flynn and Peter Hinnant. Starters Hudson Dubinski and Hunter Hammett also return to the Ragin’ Cajuns along with senior Justin Caldwell, sophomore Jake Marler and redshirt freshman Matt Weber.
Three newcomers – 2021 Junior College All-American Jose Dibildox (Saltillo, Mexico), Eli Ortego (Lafayette, La.) and Burke Alford (Shreveport, La.) – will make their debuts for Louisiana during the 2021-22 season.
