Softball: Louisiana Announces the Addition of Sarah Hudek

Was the team-leading hitter and everyday starter for SEC-member Texas A&M in 2018 season

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Softball head coach Gerry Glasco announced on Tuesday the addition of transfer outfielder Sarah Hudek.
 
A 2018 NFCA All-South Region and SEC All-Defensive Team selection, Hudek comes to Louisiana after spending the first two seasons of her collegiate softball career at Texas A&M.
 
"Sarah is an extremely special player because of her ability to win, or save a game, in many ways with her elite tools," Glasco stated. "She can hit for power, run the bases, play outstanding defense and throw out a runner with one of the most elite arms in college softball. Best of all, she is a great person to coach because of her desire to become an even better player."
 
Hudek started all 62 games in right field and led Texas A&M with a .363 average and 14 doubles during the 2018 season. She also hit eight home runs, posted 33 RBI, scored 39 runs and collected 61 putouts.
 
A driving force behind the Aggies’ run to the NCAA Super Regional round, Hudek hit .619 with three doubles, two home runs and eight RBI throughout the postseason. She went 6-for-11 with five RBI, three doubles and a homer in the NCAA College Station Regional, then reached base seven times in the NCAA Gainesville Super Regional with three runs scored, a home run and three RBI.
 
The Sugar Land, Texas native appeared in every game in 2017, starting 58 times, and produced a .291 average across 158 at bats in landing SEC All-Freshman accolades.
 
During her two-year stay at Texas A&M, Hudek hit .329, generated 112 base hits with 43 resulting in extra bases (30 doubles, triple, 12 home runs), tallied 67 RBI and tracked down 104 fly ball outs.
 
Hudek’s collegiate journey began on the baseball diamond at Bossier Parish Community College in 2016, where she made 13 appearances on the mound and worked 20 innings, before transitioning to softball at Texas A&M. In a baseball background dating back to age 11, she was the 2014 USA Baseball Sportswoman of the Year and a Class 4A state semifinalist competing at George Ranch High School.
 
"I tremendously enjoyed coaching Sarah as she made the transition to softball in her first season at Texas A&M," Glasco mentioned. "Her abilities helped make an immediate and huge impact on the run to the WCWS that year, and we have the same goal here at Louisiana."
 
The 2019 season marks the second season for Louisiana under the guidance of Gerry Glasco. In 2018, Louisiana reached 40 wins for the 20th straight season and was ranked in both major national Top 25 polls the entire season, finishing No. 18/19 in the final edition of the rankings.
