Football: Stevie Artigue Named Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the WeekPlacekicker earns first weekly award following big performance against Troy
Stevie Artigue
LAFAYETTE – Coming off a career night in which he moved into a tie for third on Louisiana’s all-time scoring list, redshirt senior placekicker Stevie Artigue has been named the Sun Belt Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday morning. Artigue is the second Ragin’ Cajuns specialist to earn the honor this season after punter Rhys Byrns garnered the recognition following a big performance against Appalachian State on Oct. 9. Artigue is the fifth different player from Louisiana to earn the recognition this season. In Saturday’s win over Troy, the Lafayette, La., native was responsible for a career-high-tying 15 of Louisiana’s 53 points, making all three of his field goal attempts and going 6-for-6 on PATs. Artigue has now connected on 11-straight field goals, seven shy of the program record for the longest streak with a made field goal. His 15 points on the night increased his career point total to 286, tying him with Brian Mitchell for third on the team’s all-time scoring list and pulled him within eight points of second place all-time, which is currently held by Tyrell Fenroy (294). Louisiana wraps up the 2019 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 30, when it welcomes in-state foe ULM to Cajun Field. Kickoff for the rivalry game is slated for 6:30 p.m. and will televised nationally on ESPNU. Tickets can be purchased by visiting RaginCajuns.com, by calling the Louisiana Athletics Ticket Office at the Cajundome, (337) 265-2170, or by visiting the office in-person.
