Sun Belt Conference Statement on 2020 Basketball Championships + Dr. Maggard’s statementNEW ORLEANS – After further discussion with the Presidents and Chancellors and Directors of Athletics and mounting concerns surrounding the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Sun Belt Conference has decided to cancel the remaining games of the 2020 Sun Belt Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships scheduled for March 14-15 at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans. Statement from Director of Athletics Bryan Maggard on the Cancellation of 2020 Sun Belt Conference Basketball Championships “In light of the situation nationally in regards to the spread of COVID-19 and the efforts to mitigate the impact of this virus, the Sun Belt Conference made the correct decision to prioritize the health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans. It is disappointing and unfortunate for our women’s basketball season to end so abruptly, but our department and our fans could not be more proud of Coach Brodhead and his team. In this constantly evolving situation, should any further announcements be necessary, we would make that information available as soon as possible.” Statement from Director of Athletics Bryan Maggard
