Announcement from Zack Stein: 

The Special Collections department at Edith Garland Dupré Library has posted a digital exhibit of the 1998 College of Education Academic Showcase. Spearheaded by Dr. Edmond Dugas, Professor Emeritus of Kinesiology, this project chronicles the programs put on by the College of Education to commemorate the university’s 100-year history, leading up to the university’s Centennial Celebration. Two sections in particular are paid close attention: a collection of 41 videos, and a Book of Letters.

The 41 videos contain programs for the showcase and oral histories. The objective of these videos was to capture and preserve the history of the university and the College of Education. Such interviews include: 

• Dr. Ray Authement, President
• Liz Landry, Centennial Committee Chair
• Margaret McMillan, Former Health and Physical Education Faculty Member
• Dr. Lucinda Chance, Dean of College of Education
• Dr. E. Joseph Savoie, Louisiana Commissioner of Higher Education (now President of University of Louisiana at Lafayette)

The Book of Letters is a collection of 147 letters that were submitted by students, faculty, and alumni of the College of Education. The letters document experiences at the university, going all the way back to the 1920s. These topics include information on careers, family, recollections of life at the university, and information on departments within the College of Education. As a special request from Dr. Dugas, the Book of Letters section is dedicated to Dr. I. Bruce Turner, former Assistant Dean of Special Collections Services.
