Catherine's Living Memorial for the Yvette Girouard Tribute was submitted on May 21,2017 and posted by Dr. Ed Dugas that day.

Catherine Sconzo-Blackburn - Softball 1989-1992

I met Yvette Girouard on the 4th of July weekend at a summer ball tournament after my senior year of high school.

I had signed a letter of intent to play for Baylor University, but they had decided to drop their softball program in May of that year.

I was unsure if I was going to even play softball in college after I received the news.

Yvette had one scholarship left due to some unfortunate circumstances with her team. She convinced me to visit USL and a few weeks later, I was moving into the dorm on campus.

Not only was Yvette an unbelievable coach, it was her committment to make sure that all of her players graduated which is most impressive to me.

We had great teams and won a lot of games. However, as I look back today, I am most grateful for her relentless reminding of her players to be successful in school and subsequently in life.

I will always be thankful for the opportunity to have played for such a storied program and under a Hall of Fame coach, but I am most thankful for her life long friendship.
