NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field student-athlete Claire Meyers earned a prestigious honor when she was nominated by the Sun Belt Conference as one of two female student-athletes for the NCAA Woman of the Year, the league office announced on Tuesday.

Meyers and Coastal Carolina volleyball player Anett Nemeth were chosen as the league's nominees. Nemeth and Meyers will be forwarded to the NCAA Woman of the Year selection committee. It will choose the top 10 honorees in each division, then pull nine finalists—three from each division – from those 30 honorees, before naming the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year this fall.

The NCAA Woman of the Year award honors graduating female student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in academics, athletics, service and leadership.

"Anett and Claire are model Sun Belt student-athletes and we are proud of their accomplishments. They have thrived academically while servicing their communities and competing at a high level. We're delighted to nominate them for this prestigious honor," said Sun Belt Conference Commissioner Keith Gill.

Meyers, a native of Maurice and Spring 2021 graduate, set the Ragin' Cajuns' school record in the javelin (175-0) during the 2021 season and was the 2021 Sun Belt Conference champion. She was named to the All-Sun Belt First Team in 2021 after a Third Team nod in 2019. The star javelin thrower was also recognized beyond the SBC, having notched second-team All-Louisiana honors in 2021 while recently competing in the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials where she reached the finals before finishing 11th overall.

Meyers served as the president of the Ragin' Cajuns Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, where she spearheaded various community service campaigns.

Nemeth was named SBC Volleyball Player and Offensive Player of the Year in each of the past two seasons.

The Pecel, Hungary, native powered the Chanticleers to regular-season Sun Belt East Division championships in both those seasons and was named to both All-Tournament teams. Last fall, the 6-foot-2 outside hitter's 4.44 kills per set led the conference as Coastal Carolina posted a perfect 16-0 record in the regular season.

On top of being a three-time, All-Sun Belt First Team member, Nemeth was recently named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Third Team and All-District First Team. Back home, she's competed with the Hungarian senior national team, where she's collected a number of accolades, including being named the nation's female player of the year in 2019.

After graduating earlier this year, Nemeth signed to play professionally with SC Potsdam in Germany. Off the court, the entrepreneurial management major has excelled in the classroom and participated in several community service activities.

Rooted in Title IX and directed by the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics, the NCAA Woman of the Year program celebrates the accomplishments of female college athletes across all three NCAA divisions. Over 220,000 women are competing in college sports, and the NCAA received 535 nominations for this prestigious award.

The Committee on Women's Athletics will select the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year from the nine finalists. At an award ceremony Oct. 17 in Indianapolis, the Top 30 honorees will be celebrated, and the 2021 NCAA Woman of the Year will be named.
