Baseball: Angel Receives Preseason SBC Honors, Louisiana Picked Third in West Division

Angel is one of three starting pitchers to get an SBC preseason nod

LAFAYETTE – Conor Angel has been named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference team, while Louisiana was picked to finish third in the West Division, the league office announced on Monday afternoon.

Already labeled as a Preseason All-Conference pick by PerfectGame.org, Angel added another preseason accolade to his name. Before touching 98 on the gun in the fall, Angel owned a 3.74 ERA and held opposing batters to a .221 average in 21.2 innings pitched in 2020.

Angel fanned 26 of the 93 batters he faced and gave up two or less earned runs in four of five appearances last year. His top performance during the shortened 2020 campaign came against Virginia Tech, when he pitched 7.1 innings of shutout baseball and fanned seven batters.

The Canadian joins Aaron Funk (Little Rock) and Jordan Jackson (Georgia Southern) as the three starting pitchers on the All-Conference squad.

The Louisiana Baseball team was picked third in the Sun Belt West Division in the Preseason Coaches Poll and received two first-place votes.
