LOUISIANA ANNOUCES SCHEDULE CHANGE TO LAMAR MATCH

Match between Ragin’ Cajuns, Cardinals to move up one day to Oct. 15 contest

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Women’s Soccer team announced on Tuesday that its scheduled home finale against Lamar has been moved up one day to an Oct. 15 contest at the Ragin’ Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility.

The match, originally scheduled for Oct. 16, will start at 7 p.m.

Louisiana (2-2-0, 0-1-0 Sun Belt) will return home for its next seven matches beginning on Thursday against Arkansas State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the match part of Louisiana Soccer's Friends and Family Weekend.

The Ragin' Cajuns will wrap up the weekend on Sunday against ULM in a 1 p.m. contest. The match will also commemorate Senior Day as the Ragin' Cajuns senior class will be recognized in a post-match ceremony.

The Ragin' Cajuns Track/Soccer Facility will operate at a significantly reduced capacity for the 2020 season (unless state policy changes during the season). This will allow for fans and University students to be accommodated this season.

Should disruptions or modifications to the 2020 season occur due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Athletics will quickly communicate the adjustments through its social media channels and RaginCajuns.com. Additionally, the department will communicate any changes to specific entry and attendance protocols for home matches.

SAN MARCOS, Texas –
Freshman Caitlyn Ferguson scored her first career goal in the 76th minute and Una Einarsdottir put the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Soccer team ahead just over a minute later, but two quick Texas State goals in the final five minutes lifted the Bobcats to a 3-2 win in the Sun Belt Conference opener for both teams on Sunday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.

Kiara Gonzales scored the equalizer for Texas State (1-4-1, 1-0-0 SBC) in the 85th minute before assisting on Emma Jones' game-winner just over two minutes later in a wild ending that improved the Bobcats' record against Louisiana (2-2-0, 0-1-0 SBC) to 8-1 all-time.

The Ragin' Cajuns trailed 1-0 after Ally Kewish's goal in the 42nd minute before Ferguson took a pass from Kiana Leger and drew the match at 1-all when she scored in the lower left corner past Texas State goalkeeper Beth Agee.

The freshman's first career goal quickly ignited Louisiana's offense as a pair of corner kick opportunities would eventually give the Ragin' Cajuns their first lead of the day.

Einarsdottir scored her first goal of the season for Louisiana when she attempted a shot from just inside the 18-yard box that got past a Bobcat defender Agee and into the upper part of the goal for a 2-1 lead.

But Louisiana's lead would be short-lived as Gonzales would get behind the Ragin' Cajuns back line and beat goalkeeper Jordan Higgins to score her second goal of the season off an assist from Bailey Peschel.

Two minutes later, Gonzales crossed a ball from the right corner into the 6-yard box where Jones was there to head it in past Higgins and putting Texas State ahead for good.

Louisiana had a pair of scoring opportunities late in the first half wasted as a foul in the box nullified Lizzie Mayfield's goal off a corner kick before Karleen Bedre's last-second attempt was deflected by Agee, caromed off the bottom of the crossbar and bounced out to preserve the Bobcat lead at intermission.

Mayfield, who took a pair of shots for Louisiana, missed out on a near goal midway through the 75th minute when her attempt got past Agee but deflected off the left post and bounced away.

Higgins stopped three shots for Louisiana while Einarsdottir, Ferguson and Mayfield each attempted a pair of the Ragin' Cajuns 10 shots in the match. Agee recorded all five of her saves in the first half for Texas State with Gonzales, Jones and Kewish each attempting three shots in part of an 18-10 advantage.

Louisiana will return home for its next seven matches beginning on Thursday (Sept. 24) against Arkansas State. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the match part of Louisiana Soccer's Friends and Family Weekend.

The Ragin' Cajuns will wrap up next weekend on Sunday (Sept. 27) against ULM in a 1 p.m. contest. The match will also commemorate Senior Day as the Ragin' Cajuns senior class will be recognized in a post-match ceremony.
