Ragin' Cajuns Partner with Super 1 Foods to Employ Game Day Workers During COVID-19 Pandemic

Game day employees to be hired on at official grocery store partner

LAFAYETTE - With stay-at-home orders issued and only essential businesses remaining in operation around the country, Louisiana Athletics and Super 1 Foods, the official grocery store of the Ragin' Cajuns, have entered into a unique partnership. The Ragin' Cajuns' hourly-paid game day employees, which includes ushers, parking attendants and university community personnel, will have the opportunity to be hired on with local Super 1 Foods stores.

Due to ongoing concerns of the spread of COVID-19, the Sun Belt Conference canceled all remaining competitions for the spring academic term, leaving several dozen employees of the Ragin' Cajuns' regular season baseball and softball games without work. Super 1 Foods' opportunities for those individuals as part-time employees with their grocery stores will include stocking shelves, manning store loading docks and working in customer service.

"We are grateful for the partnership with Super 1 Foods that clearly extends beyond sport," said Nico Yantko, Deputy Director of Athletics/External Operations. "These are unfortunate and unique circumstances for everyone, and it is really special knowing that Super 1 Foods is willing and able to help keep many of our event and concessions workers employed during this challenging time. Hats off to Brad Brookshire and his leadership at Brookshire's and Super 1 Foods. It's collaborations like this that help propel our communities forward, together."

"We are very proud to partner with the Ragin' Cajuns, on and off the field," said Brad Brookshire, Chairman and CEO of Brookshire Grocery Co., parent-company of Super 1 Foods. "The Ragin' Cajun employees are a class act and a perfect fit for Super 1 Foods. We are honored to have them working alongside us as we take care of our customers and Acadiana communities during these unprecedented times."

Super 1 Foods, a grocery store chain with 47 locations, has 12 such stores throughout Acadiana. Supporters of the Ragin' Cajuns shopping at Super 1 Foods will find low prices, unexpected value and a great assortment of quality fresh products.
