MOBILE, Ala. – Jack Tolson, celebrating his 22nd birthday, overcame a sluggish start by shooting a 3-under-par 69 to earn his ninth career top-20 finish and lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team to an eighth-place overall finish at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate on Tuesday at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course.
Peter Hinnant fired a 1-under-par 71 on the par-72, 7,212-yard course for Louisiana while Hudson Dubinski and Charlie Flynn each carded rounds of 2-over-par 74 as Louisiana posted a team score of even-par 288 to finish at 862 for the 54-hole tournament. Hunter Hammett posted a score of 3-over 75 for the Ragin' Cajuns with Bjorn Gudjonsson, competing individually, posted his second straight below-par round with a 1-under 71.
Tolson, who opened the day on Monday with a 3-under 69 before shooting a 3-over 75 in the afternoon, started his final round with a bogey at No. 10 and a double bogey at 11 before coming back with a birdie at No. 13 and an eagle at 16. The senior made the turn at 1-over 37, and after a bogey on the par-3 No.2, he would record five birdies in his final seven holes to finish at 3-under 213 and a tie for 19th place.
Hinnant, who finished at 222 during the two-day tournament for Louisiana, posted a 2-under par 34 on the back nine before shooting a 1-over 37 on the front. Dubinski (71-69-74-214) earned his best 54-hole finish for Louisiana after rallying from a 40 on the back nine with a 2-under 34 on the front.
Flynn (76-69-74-219) overcame a rough start to the day that saw a pair of bogeys and a double bogey on his first three holes to go bogey-free on the front nine, carding a 2-under 34 and finishing tied for 49th.
Gudjonsson, who posted his third-career round in the 60's in Monday's second round, overcame a pair of bogeys on the front nine with a birdie at No. 4 and an eagle – his second in as many days on the front nine – at the par-5, No. 6.
Two-time defending champion Florida State rallied from a six-stroke deficit to claim a one-shot victory over No. 50 Illinois. The Seminoles carded a team score of 277 in the final round to finish at 836 with Illinois (837), No. 15 Louisiville (838), UAB (842) and first-day leader Texas State (842) rounding out the top five.
