DEKALB, Ill. – Louisiana's Alex Augustyn scored on an equalizer with three seconds remaining in regulation and the Ragin' Cajuns soccer team battled to a wild 4-4 deadlock against Northern Illinois on Friday at the NIU Soccer/Track & Field Complex.

Gwen Mummert added a goal and assist while freshman Rachel Sutter had two assists for Louisiana (0-2-1), which used a goal by Lafayette's Katherine Whitman in the third minute before Telly Vunipola scored in the 50th minute off an assist from Karleen Bedre.

NIU (0-1-1) scored three goals in a 16-minute span to take a 3-2 lead as Hannah Kroupa scored in the 62nd minute for the Huskies before Trudy Quidzinski scored back-to-back goals for a 3-2 lead.

Mummert began a wild final 6:10 of the match after her header in the 84th minute tied the game at 3-3. Quidzinski scored her third goal of the game – and fourth of the season – just over 90 seconds later to give NIU a 4-3 lead before a pair of late fouls by the Huskies gave the Ragin' Cajuns a final chance to send the match to overtime.

After a foul by NIU with 19 seconds remaining, Augustyn took a pass from Mummert off a direct kick and scored on a scramble in the box and sending the match to overtime.

Louisiana had a shot attempt in the first overtime before NIU's Julia Lentz saved a last-second attempt by Rainey Niles in the second overtime to earn the draw.

Mackenzie Lee recorded four saves for Louisiana, which outshot NIU 12-11 with each team placing eight shots on goal. Lentz added four saves for the Huskies with Quidzinski taking five of NIU's 11 shot attempts.

Louisiana will wrap up its trip to the upper Midwest on Sunday when it visits Chicago State (0-3-0) in a 1 p.m. contest.
