Soccer Reports For Fall Camp; Workouts Begin Tuesday

Team to hold Vermilion-White Intrasquad Scrimmage on Sunday

LAFAYETTE – First-year soccer coach Lance Key welcomed 28 players, including 17 returning letterwinners, as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's soccer team reported for camp on Monday.
Louisiana, who also welcomed eight newcomers that included three transfers, went through meetings and a photo shoot during the opening day before holding its first workout of the 2019 season on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
Highlighting the returners for Louisiana included top-goal scorer Una Einarsdottir and 2018 assists leader Gwen Mummert. Returning letterwinners Julianne DeBlieuxTelly Vunipola and Madysin Girouard each scored goals for the Ragin' Cajuns in 2018 with Savanna Young returning as the leader in shot attempts (22).
Forwards Grace ChampagneSkyla SykesFranziska Riepl and Ashley Newland all return for the Ragin' Cajuns along with midfielders Kobi McNutt and Rainey Niles, and defenders Kaylie PowellMary Lynn SchwingIzzy Wheeler and Brynja Palmadottir.  
Seniors Mackenzie Lee and Victoria Mendes will handle the goalkeeping duties for Louisiana.
A pair of newcomers – Alexandra Augustyn and former Acadiana High product Hailey Daigle – spent the 2018 season at Louisiana Tech, with former St. Thomas More product and Lafayette native Katherine Whitman joining the team after playing three seasons at Division II St. Edward's (Texas).
Joining the team as freshmen include Karleen BedreWren BlanchetteBrhyde CamronOlivia Gelpi and Rachel Sutter.
Fans can get their first look of the Ragin' Cajuns when the team holds their Vermilion-White Intrasquad Scrimmage on Sunday at 5 p.m., at the Ragin' Cajuns Soccer/Track Complex. Admission is free.
Louisiana will travel for exhibition matches at Southeastern Louisiana (Aug. 16) and McNeese State (Aug. 18) before officially opening its season on Aug. 22 against UTSA in the Cardinal Classic in Beaumont, Texas.
