Football: Eight Ragin’ Cajuns Named to Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference Teams

Louisiana was also selected to win the West Division in the Preseason Coaches’ Poll

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Football saw eight student-athletes named to Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference Teams and was selected as the West Division favorites in the Preseason Coaches' Poll, the league office announced on Thursday.

First Team selections included Ja'Marcus Bradley (WR), Robert Hunt (OL) and Kevin Dotson (OL), while Elijah Mitchell (RB), Trey Ragas (RB), Zi'Yon Hill (DL), Jacques Boudreaux (LB) and Michael Jacquet III (DB) landed on the second team. Louisiana's eight representatives across the two teams is the third highest in the conference.

The team earned the top spot in the coaches' poll with 46 points, including six votes to win the league outright. Last year, the Ragin' Cajuns were picked to finish fourth in the West Division and seventh overall.

Bradley is coming off one of the top receiving seasons in school history. As a 2018 All Sun Belt Third Team member, Bradley finished the year with 10 receiving touchdowns, tying Donald Richard (1996) and Dave Oliver (1976) for the most all-time. Additionally, Bradley caught three of his touchdowns against South Alabama, tying the program record for most receiving touchdowns in a single game.

The other two first team members, Hunt and Dotson, played a vital role in the Ragin Cajuns' highly productive offensive line unit. Dotson appeared on last year's All-Sun Belt First Team and the 2017 All-Sun Belt Second Team, while Hunt was an All-Sun Belt Second Team selection a season ago.

Running backs Mitchell and Ragas headlined the Second Team selections after the duo was named to the Doak Walker Award preseason watch list on Wednesday. Mitchell, rushed for 985 yards and scored 16 touchdowns in 2018, 13 of which came on the ground, en route to garnering Second Team All-Sun Belt recognition. The rising junior tallied four, 100-yard performances a season ago and averaged 6.74 yards per carry, good for 14th in the FBS.

Ragas led all Louisiana rushers with 1,181 yards, positioning him with the third-highest rush total in the Sun Belt Conference by season's end. He opened the year with a 142-yard showing against in-state foe Grambling, one of his seven, 100-yard rushing performances of the season. Ragas went on to claim Third Team All-Sun Belt Conference honors.

Defensively, Hill was a staple on the defensive line tallying 47 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and sack. Similarly, Boudreaux and Jacquet made massive contributions with Boudreaux leading the team in tackles (93) and Jacquet leading the team in pass breakups (9) and interceptions (2).
