Softball: Casidy Chaumont to transfer to University of Missouri

Nick Fontenot, Special to The Advertiser, June 17, 2019

Casidy Chaumont, who started 31 games for UL in 2019, will transfer to the University of Missouri for her final two seasons of eligibility.

Chaumont was part of a platoon at second base for Cajuns coach Gerry Glasco in 2019, but by the end of the season, she'd cemented herself in the lineup, starting all four games at second base in the Oxford Regional. She hit .286 in her final season as a Ragin’ Cajun.

“Excited to say I’ll be continuing my academic and softball career a little bit further north at the University of Missouri,” Chaumont said in a Twitter post Friday evening. The tweet was met with resounding support from fans and former teammates, including well wishes from UL seniors Lexie Comeaux and Alison Deville.

Chaumont’s transfer comes on the heels of the Cajuns softball team adding three key transfers to the roster earlier this month. Mia Camuso from Oregon, Callie Martin from Missouri and Melissa Mayeux from Miami Dade Junior College are all joining the team for 2020.

Camuso will more than likely begin the season as the Cajuns starting second baseman, which may have played a role in Chaumont’s decision to move on.

Chaumont prepped at Sam Houston in Moss Bluff, where she hit .462 with six home runs and 37 RBI in her senior season. She was part of the 2015 Sam Houston team that won the 5A State Championship and she was a two-time member of the Louisiana Sportswriters All-State team.

Chaumont finished her Cajuns career with five total home runs, all hit in her freshman season.
